Through a Franco-Romanian approach, the conference "Freedom of expression in times of crisis. Franco-Romanian perspectives", supported by HE Mrs. Laurence Auer, Ambassador of the French Republic in Romania, proposed to approach freedom of expression from both a legal and a practical perspective, when society faces a context of crisis.
Thus, it was analyzed, first of all, the military crisis which calls into question especially the role of journalism in the face of crimes and disinformation. The topic then focused on the democratic crisis affecting several European countries marked by a resurgence of authoritarianism and opacity. In this sense, the traditional and new conditions for the exercise of freedom of expression were discussed, especially with regard to developments in European legislation. Finally, the globalized ecological crisis induces a commitment from everyone, not just professionals. How are information, investigations and processes articulated? How to effectively protect those who fight for the protection of the environment?
French-Romanian translation was provided throughout the duration of the event.
