Associate and tenured teaching staff, students from the Faculty of Music and Theatre, the Doctoral School of Music and Theater at the University of the West in Timișoara and students from the Art High School Ion Vidu from Timișoara, will participate between May 15-21, 2023 in a series of cultural and scientific events in Albania and North Macedonia.

Univ. Prof. skilled dr. Lucian Emil Roșca:

Concerts, annual national and international recitals qualify us through the repertoire chosen with responsibility for the authenticity and diversity of the repertoire. As the only ensemble of this type of academic level in Romania - through the ongoing projects, we tend to become a brand of our university. It is actually the first international tour in which a music/folk ensemble from the Faculty of Music and Theater participates. The event will take place at the highest musical academic level - the University of Arts Tirana/Albania and the Faculty of Arts/University of Tetovo/North Macedonia - with a well-thought-out program that includes recitals, lectures, ethnomusicology workshops, presentation of volumes of specialty and Romanian book donation published at the West University Publishing House in Timișoara. In the same context, we initiated the first steps towards the signing of the International Cooperation Agreement between our university and faculty with the two university institutions in Albania and North Macedonia on ethnomusicology, music and performing arts. Through my personal efforts to organize this trip, I also initiated a day dedicated to documentation, research, recording of folkloric musical aspects (vocal and instrumental) in the traditional Aromanian community, official meetings with cultural representatives and managers, as well as an extraordinary recital at the Romanian Embassy in Tirana. The program of our trip will end on May 19 with a concert of traditional Romanian music and a session of scientific lectures at the Faculty of Music in Tetovo, North Macedonia. The project - a first for our university - is also aimed at opening up international cooperation in musical, cultural, scientific, educational terms and promoting our identity values. I would also like to cordially thank the Director Prof. Dr. Daniel Zah – Ion Vidu Art High School in Timișoara, the management of the Faculty of Music and Theatre, the dean – Prof. Univ. Dr. Violeta Zonte, Mrs. Associate Professor Dr. Ortensia Zeman - department director and for the official opening steps towards international cooperation, from the vice-chancellor - university associate. Dr. Cătălina Ancuța.

The importance of the Vocal and Instrumental Ensemble of Traditional Music established in 2018 is represented by a permanent practical activity, which successfully complements the theoretical activity within the disciplines of Musical Folklore and Stylistics and Interpretation of Musical Folklore. The optional disciplines introduced in the curriculum such as: Traditional wind instruments, Traditional woodwind instruments, Wind instruments - optional (whistle, caval, taragot, saxophone), Traditional vocal ensemble, ensure improvement - from a stylistic and interpretive point of view , but also the valorization of the folkloric materials studied within the Folk Music Orchestra, since its establishment, performing annual concerts, participation in folk festivals in the country and abroad, recitals, workshops, with the participation of our students from all levels of studies and specializations ( singing and instrumental interpretation), to which is added the scientific and interpretive activity of doctoral students researching in the field of ethnomusicology.
