On May 11, 2023, in a solemn ceremony, Antoine Compagnon became a member of the French Academy occupying chair number 35. The sword was handed to him by the academician Michel Zink, and on this occasion Pierre Nora, the historian and editor of at Gallimard, which for 40 years dealt with the publication of the works written by the French man of letters. The access to the status of "immortal" is a welcome reward for the research that Mr. Antoine Compagnon carried out to decipher the works of writers such as Marcel Proust, Charles Baudelaire or Michel de Montaigne and for the exceptional quality of his scientific works.

Theoretician and literary critic of international renown, essayist, holder of the chair of French and contemporary literature at the Collège de France, professor at Columbia University in New York and Paris-Sorbonne University, member of several scientific or evaluation committees of some Institutes/ professional agencies/associations from France and abroad, Antoine Compagnon is also a member of the academic community of the Western University of Timisoara since 2019, the year in which he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa Litterarum Humaniorum from UVT.

The news of the appointment of Mr. Antoine Compagnon to the French Academy is an occasion of joy for the entire Alma Mater Timisiensis and especially for the colleagues from the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology, with whom he had a beautiful and fruitful collaboration.
