In December, Piața Unirii in Timișoara becomes the place where good stories of people who move things in our community are told. It is about the Eroi Urbani installation, a campaign initiated by Ness Romania and implemented by the Timișoara Community Foundation. Urban Heroes brings to the attention of the community examples of people who not only believe in change for the better, but also represent it, and dedicate each day to activities that have a significant impact on those around them. The seven urban heroes presented in the installation in Unirii Square are active in different fields, from social and humanitarian to medical and education. The heroes were chosen from a list of 29 nominations, by a jury made up of two journalists, three people from the business environment and a representative of the Timișoara Community Foundation.
Our colleague, Dr. Silvia Fierăscu, is one of the seven Urban Heroes of Timișoara in 2021. She is a teacher at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Philosophy and Communication Sciences at the Western University of Timișoara and the founder of the Social Fabrics Research Lab (FabLab) . He is the person who introduced Network Science in Timișoara and inspires generations of students in "cutting edge" fields of society.
The Social Fabrics Research Lab, a social science research, development and innovation laboratory, is home to over 50 active students. From each cohort involved annually, most find jobs in the field thanks to the practical experience of working at the FabLab or the opportunities offered.
Silvia works in various international, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary projects, and translates complex problems into analytical solutions and software for organizational development, change management, better communication, good governance, public policy and social impact.
Silvia wrote the book "Redefining State Capture", in which she investigates the case of state capture through the institutionalization of corruption networks in public procurement. The software prototype in the analysis of corruption risks, developed by her and her team, proposes analytical models for increasing competitiveness and improving the practices of spending and investing public money.
The Eroi Urbani installation will be in Piata Unirii until January 10, 2022 and wants to provide examples by which anyone can get involved in the good running of the community and become an urban hero. In Timișoara there are many occasions where any person can be of help, either through an NGO, or through a humanitarian campaign, or even by starting their own project.
