The RegioStars local communication ceremony dedicated to the project "From mine to rivers. The guardians of the waters!", at UVT

One of the top projects of UVT, in its capacity as a multidisciplinary research center, is registered on the Interreg – IPA Romania – Serbia funding axis of the EU:RORS-337: Romanian-Serbian network for assessing and disseminating the impact of copper mining activities on water quality in the transboundary area". The three partners involved in this project (UVT, the Nera Caras-Severin Ecological Collaboration Group and the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in Bor, Republic of Serbia) carried out research to develop a solution to reduce the degree of pollution caused by mining activities and to to restore the natural attractiveness of the border area.

Thursday, March 21 the RegioStars local communication ceremony dedicated to this project took place, which won, in November 2023, the "Green Europe" award, at the RegioStars Awards Gala.

The event was attended by:

  • Univ. Prof. Dr. Cosmin Enache, vice-chancellor of the West University of Timișoara,
  • Oana Cristea, Head of the Management Authority of the Interreg Program – IPA Romania – Serbia
  • Monika Hencsey, Director of Communication, Department for Regional and Urban Policies of the European Commission,
  • Sanda Šimic, Acting Deputy Minister, Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia,
  • HE Silvia Davidoiu, Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Serbia,
  • Anca Lolescu, Executive Director, Timisoara Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation.
  • Univ. Prof. Dr. Adrian Isvoran (UVT)
  • Prof. Dr. Zoran Stevanovici (Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in Bor, Republic of Serbia),
  • Univ. Assoc. Dr. Cristina Rotaru (UVT).

RegioStars is an annual competition dedicated to the best projects funded by the European Union, which demonstrate the impact of regional development, confirming the positive actions carried out by the project teams to bring valuable changes within the local communities they represent, but also to inspire other projects from all Europe.
