Short prose contest: "When and how I felt that thing for Romania"

Talking about Romania is somehow difficult. Because of demagoguery, misunderstood patriotism, fallen into nationalism and xenophobia. And yet, there must still be something beyond the words that have been stripped of their meaning. Let it be a state, a moment when the distance hurt you or when you felt proud to come from this story, not necessarily red-yellow-blue, but crimson, like a wave of blood a little warmer, a little more fast?

Around Romania's National Day, UVT invited the general public to write a few lines about a moment in which a Romanian / Romania hurt, well (can that be a definition of the word "longing"?), or mattered. So he proposed to UVT students or anywhere, students or grandparents, bus drivers or chemists, a way to tell other than through the gestures they were already tired of when their soul moved. When did they feel "that thing" towards something from Romania?

Those interested could send a text of up to 2000 characters (including spaces) to the email address 1.decembrie@e-uvt.ro, until December 10, inclusive, with three texts to be chosen each (pupils, students, general categories) symbolically awarded. It can be a good start for anyone. Or a recognition. And, for UVT, a way to prove that we can clean, through words, notions that, deep down there, are still clean.

The rector of UVT, university professor Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "The Western University of Timișoara is involved not only in the formation of intellectuals, but also of characters. Part of this desire of ours is the public discussion about the values of the society we are part of. We will also be happy to discover talented people who know how to present these ideas in a special literary form. That is why I recommend the short prose contest, on the side of the idea of homeland, proposed by UVT on the occasion of Romania's National Day".
