The inter-county mathematics competition "Traian Lalescu Memorial" is a traditional competition that has reached its 35th edition, being organized on March 23 this year by the West University of Timișoara in collaboration with the Timiș County School Inspectorate, under under the auspices of the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences – Timiș Branch and with the support of the UVT Foundation. Its purpose is to prepare students participating in the final stage of the National Mathematical Olympiad from the counties of Arad, Caraș-Severin, Hunedoara and Timiș, participation in this competition being conditioned by the classification in the first 4 places in the county phase of this Olympiad, at each from grades V-XII.

The competition consisted of a 3-hour written test based on some subjects, with a high degree of difficulty, developed by the teaching staff of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. This year, 168 students from the four counties participated, along with 48 pre-university teachers and nine teachers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Western University of Timișoara.

An important financial support in the organization of this event was ensured through the funds distributed within the extracurricular projects organized at the UVT level.
