Starting from 2003, the Faculty of Physics of the Western University of Timișoara, in collaboration with the Timișoara Branch of the Romanian Physics Society, organizes the "Constantin Sălceanu" National Physics Competition. The purpose of this competition is to stimulate interest in physics among high school students and to identify talented future students.
The competition consists of a single written test, lasting three hours, which includes practical physics problems and theoretical questions in accordance with the Baccalaureate curriculum. Participation in the contest is free.
This year, the competition took place on March 23, 2024, starting at 10 a.m., at the Faculty of Physics - UVT, as well as in three other competition centers: "Traian Vuia" Theoretical High School in Reșita, "Gheorghe Țițeica" National College in Drobeta-Turnu Severin and the "Tudor Vladimirescu" National College from Târgu Jiu. This event was attended by 288 students from 12 counties (Alba, Argeș, Arad, Bucharest, Bihor, Caraș-Severin, Gorj, Hunedoara, Mehedinți, Maramureș, Sibiu and Timiș), the number of participants registering a constant increase from year to year . 48 students took part from Timișoara, coming from 10 representative high schools.
