About civilization and the right to offend, with Horia-Roman Patapievici

Culture is of fundamental importance at UVT. In order to respond to this principle of value, we are organizing a new series of conferences this year, under the generic "At UVT, culture is capital".

On Wednesday, 25.11.2020, from 18:30, an evening of dialogue was organized on the topic "Civilization and the right to offend", moderated by the teacher and writer Mircea Mihăieș, with the well-known writer, philosopher and contemporary essayist, Mr. Horia-Roman Patapievici.

Honorary member of our academic community, since 2012 when he was awarded the title Doctor Honoris Causa of UVT, Mr. Horia-Roman Patapievici has a rich career in the field of culture and publishing. TV producer of two shows for TVR Cultural, honorary member of the Ludwig von Mises Institute and member of the Romanian Writers' Union, Mr. Patapievici debuted as an essayist in 1992, in Contrapunct Magazine, and since then he has had different contributions, including editorials, in Revista 22, Dilema Veche, Orizont, Vatra, Secolul 20 and Evenimentul Zilei.

Among the most important writings of his reign we mention "The sky seen through the lens", "Flying at the stroke of the arrow. Essay on Formation', 'Politics' or 'Remarks on the Recentness in Man'.

The rector of UVT, university professor dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, emphasizes the special cultural profile of the event organized by UVT: "This special conference provided an opportunity for genuine dialogue, extremely well received by the interested public. The hundreds of visitors who watched LIVE, the two hours of dense debate, full of valuable ideas, were attracted by a lively intellectual argument, supported by the writer Horia-Roman Patapievici, regarding the European dialogue on offense and the right to free expression of original ideas. Thanks to these two distinguished intellectuals for turning two hours yesterday evening into a spectacle of highly erudite thought and expression".

To meet the expectations expressed by many of those who are eager to follow this conference, UVT makes available the full recording of the debate, both on UVT Facebook page dedicated to the event, as well as on website.
