In the period 6–8 May 2022, the final stage of the Central and Eastern European Moot Competition, prestigious student scientific competition under European Union law, in its 27th edition, organized by Juris Angliae Scientia, in cooperation with the Court of Justice of the European Union, with support from other European Union institutions, the Center for European Legal Studies at the University of Cambridge and Clifford Chance.
In the final stage of the competition, 13 teams qualified, including the one from the Faculty of Law of the Western University of Timișoara. Access to this stage was based on the written memos prepared by the participants.
The competition consisted of a simulation of the proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union, in which the participating teams presented the arguments of the parties in a case concerning the possibility of arbitral tribunals to make requests based on art. 267 TFEU, the invocation of directives, the principle of non-discrimination, competition rules applicable to businesses.
The Timișoara Faculty of Law team, composed of Maria Ierima, Timeia Lupșa, Bogdan Țermure and Tania Velcsov (4rd year students), qualified for the semifinals of the competition, ranking among the best XNUMX participating universities and equaling the performances of the teams that represented The Faculty of Law from Timișoara at the editions of recent years. At the same time, Miss Maria Ierima obtained an individual pleading award.
The preparation of the Timișoara Faculty of Law team was coordinated by Prof. Raluca Bercea, Mrs. lect.univ.dr. Sorina Doroga and Miss drd. Bianca Șerb, former participant and winner of an individual pleading award in this competition.
