The Western University of Timișoara has the joy and honor to announce a special visit, of great value in the space of relations with the Romanian scientific diaspora in the United States of America. Next week, UVT will receive the visit of the American researcher and strategist of Romanian origin Edward N. Luttwak, an event that will have a special significance, also marked by the joining of the distinguished professor to the UVT university community, together with the awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of UVT .

Within the global orientation for university adaptation to the most advanced fields of security culture, UVT seeks to integrate the most representative voices of the Romanian scientific diaspora from around the world, professors and researchers specialized in the field of international relations and political and security sciences. One of the biggest names in this field, the American researcher and strategist of Romanian origin Edward N. Luttwak, renowned academic, government advisor and author of specialized works in the field of political-military strategic thinking and international relations, was invited to visit the university community of UVT, with the release of one of his most influential works, translated from English into Romanian and published by the Publishing House of the University of the West in Timișoara this year. "Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace" (Strategy): originally published in 1987, it was later re-edited and revised, translated into dozens of languages ​​(now for the first time in Romanian, at UVT) and is still essential reading both in the university area as well as in the highest spheres of the political and military decision-making systems.

Edward N. Luttwak is well-known to the specialized public as one of the most important analysts of grand strategies and as the author of major works in the fields of international relations and strategic studies and, in a broader sense, a personality with a role in capital truth in the history of political thought and strategic theory in the second half of the 1975th century and at the beginning of the XNUMXst century. Professor Luttwak was a consultant to the US Secretary of Defense, Department of Defense, beginning in XNUMX. He was also a Fellow and then an Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Washington DC, as well as an International Associate at the Institute of Fiscal and Monetary Policy, attached to the Ministry of Finance in Japan. Edward Luttwak was also a consultant for: the US National Security Council, the White House Chief of Staff, the US State Department, the US Department of Defense, as well as a consultant to the governments of several countries – Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Peru and Spain .

Edward Luttwak introduced the concept of "war maneuver", when he worked at TRADOC - US Army Training and Doctrine Command, the "operational level of war", a concept that began to be used by American military doctrine, and the of "rapid deployment force" when he worked for the Assistant Secretary of State for International Security Affairs.

Professor and strategist Edward N. Luttwak accepted our invitation, and will be in Timisoara next week, at UVT, on a tour that will certainly strengthen the Timișoara school of political and security sciences, when he there was also the launch of the recently printed volume, "Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace".

The visit of the renowned strategist is yet another confirmation of the concerns and efforts to mature the study and research programs belonging to the intellectual space of the security culture, carried out in UVT through the master's study programs Global Security Studies, but also through that of Cyber ​​Security, established in recent years.

We are convinced that the international reputation of Professor Edward N. Luttwak will mean a special milestone in the life of the Timisoara School of International Relations and Security Sciences, his reign will play an inspirational role for generations of students and researchers, as the founding master of a new development stages of this field of study at UVT.

During next week's program, the American professor and strategist of Romanian origin Edward N. Luttwak will have expert discussions, on the field of security culture and applied grand strategies, with members of the UVT academic community (teaching staff, researchers and students) from within the Center for Jewish Studies, the Faculty of Political Sciences, Philosophy and Communication Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.
