Cross-border training events in the field of environmental protection

Environmental problems are particularly complex, but the responsibility of each individual is very important for the protection of the environment. If it is realized that each person has a significant role in increasing responsibility towards environmental protection and if young people are informed about the ways in which each can act, the results will appear without fail. In this context, within the project  Romania Serbia Network for assessing and disseminating the impact of copper mining activities on water quality in the transboundary area / RoS-NET2  training and awareness activities for young people on various environmental issues were planned. In January 2021, we implemented two online awareness events regarding the concepts of efficient water supply, water treatment and reuse, and ecological public procurement respectively. Students and teachers from Serbia, from the "Olga Petrov-Radišić" General School in Vârset, were involved, which illustrates the cross-border nature of the events. Students listened to presentations designed to facilitate understanding of the concepts, watched films that illustrated the concepts contained in the presentations, and participated in debates on the concepts discussed.

In the event dedicated to efficient water supply, water treatment and reuse, it was realized that changes in lifestyle and industrial and agricultural activities lead to an increase in the demand for water, an increase which, correlated with the effects of climate change, calls into question the supply of water in the years to come. The students imagined scenarios of saving water in their own household, of its reuse, they emphasized that simple gestures of each person can lead to the elimination of water waste.

As for the green procurement event, students participated in a competition in which they listed products that could be procured for their school and explained how these products could be replaced with green ones.

The students filled in a feedback questionnaire for each of the events they participated in and specified that they learned new things, that they realized that they should value water and not waste it, they understood the concept of green public procurement and that they will be more mindful of their actions so as to contribute to the protection of the environment.
