"The Formula: A Science of Success"

2020 marks the 195th anniversary of the first Christmas Conference organized by Michael Faraday at the Royal Institution in London. Also in 2020, but in Romania at the Romanian Athenaeum, the eighth Christmas Conference in Bucharest will take place on December 16, to which we invite you to participate.

Organized online on the theme "The Formula: a Science of Success", the event will have Mr. Albert Laszlo Barabási, Robert Gray Dodge Professor of Network Science, Distinguished Professor and Director of Northeastern University Center for Complex Network Research, Boston Associate member of the Center of Cancer Systems Biology at the Dana–Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard University Visiting professor, Center for Network Science – Central European University.

Professor Albert Laszlo Barabási was born in Cârța, Harghita county, his father being a historian and writer and his mother being a literature teacher and children's theater director. Between 1986-1989 he studied physics at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest, starting to study chaos theory and publishing his first three articles. In 1991 he got his Master's degree at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, and three years later he got his PhD with Prof. H. Eugene Stanley at Boston University. He was a postdoc for one year at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, after which, in 1995, he joined the teaching staff of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, in 1995. In 2000, at the age of only 32, he was appointed Professor of Physics Emil T. Hofman (the youngest university professor with this title). Establish the Center for Research on Complex Networks here. In 2005-2006 he is Visiting Professor at Harvard University, and at the end of 2007 he leaves Notre Dame University to become Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Network Science at Northeastern University, Boston and to start collaboration with the Department of Medicine at Harvard University.

Professor Albert Laszlo Barabási is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and an honorary member of our academic community, being awarded in March 2018 with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa Scientiarum.  

The 2020 Christmas Conference will be an event held at the Romanian Athenaeum and will be broadcast online, under the very special conditions of the Covid-19 Pandemic. This year's Conference is dedicated to this Anniversary and, at the same time, it is dedicated to all those who suffer here and throughout the world and to the medical corps which, through sometimes superhuman efforts, is fighting to heal them and keep them alive .
