Social Involvement Gala, at the first edition

This week, on December 13, the first edition of the Social Involvement Gala took place at the Iulius Congress Hall in Timișoara, a special event organized by the West University of Timișoara, through the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology.

The Western University of Timișoara has a constant concern regarding its social mission, regarding the construction of an inclusive society, based on respect for human rights, carrying out actions to promote European democratic and civic values, such as equality of rights and opportunities, political and religious tolerance , civic participation and social responsibility. In the efforts made to achieve these goals, the members of the academic community of the West University of Timișoara benefit from fundamental support from partner institutions and organizations active in the social field.

UVT rector, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "The Social Involvement Gala is a natural response of the UVT academic community, through which we aimed to create a context to celebrate the partners who are close to the actions and projects of the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology, specific to the social field, for a welcome recognition and appreciation public of organizations and individuals who stood out for their special contributions in facilitating access to education, aimed at children and young people from vulnerable population categories. We thank you and are grateful to have you by our side, honored and dear social partners!"

In this first edition of the Social Involvement Gala, ten distinctions were awarded:

United Way Romania organization - which financially supported the establishment of 12 day care centers in 6 counties in the country. The mission of these centers is to prevent school dropouts in poor urban and rural communities, working both with children from disadvantaged families and with their parents and teachers.

To the Coder Dojo initiative group @UVT - made up of a team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Western University of Timișoara, which organizes, in the faculty's laboratories, familiarization activities with programming languages ​​intended for children, including those from vulnerable categories.

Save the Children Organization - Timișoara Branch – which, for over 25 years, has been providing support to children in vulnerable situations in our community, through its education and counseling programs and projects, which serve hundreds of beneficiaries annually.

Madam lecturer. university Dr. Atalia Onițiu (Faculty of Sociology and Psychology, UVT) – the initiator of the Socio Claus project, an event with both a charitable character, intended to raise funds for children with disabilities, but also to raise awareness and sensitize the general public regarding the need to accept and cultivate respect for diversity and human dignity.

The Directorate of Social Assistance of the Municipality of Timișoara – a reference institution in the Timișoara community, whose main concern is providing support to categories of population in a situation of social vulnerability, annually supporting hundreds of children from Timișoara in accessing the right to education.

To the lecturer Dr. Alina Satmari (Faculty of Chemistry, Biology and Geography, UVT) – for his involvement in numerous activities to support young blind people and create adapted work tools, the most recent tool being a tactile map of the plan of the UVT headquarters, dedicated to blind students.

Society for Children and Parents SCOP - which for over a quarter of a century has contributed to supporting children and families in difficult situations, by supporting access to education and preventing school dropout among children in Timișoara.

Mrs. Dr. Corina Nani (Faculty of Arts and Design, UVT) – for the promotion of social inclusion through his artistic works and the involvement of children and young people from vulnerable social categories in their conception and execution.

Buziaș Educational Center - which contributes to the social reintegration through education of young men and women who have committed crimes while they were minors and for whom the courts ordered the measure of internment in an educational center. Currently, the Buziaș Educational Center serves 23 counties of the country.

Miss Rebeca Cerchez, graduate of the Western University of Timișoara, majoring in Social Work - who, for a year, during the pandemic period, carried out volunteer activities in Namibia, Africa, supporting children in difficult life situations by organizing activities educational, artistic and social

During the event, a silent auction was also organized, with artistic works made by students of the Social Assistance specialization from the University of West in Timișoara. The money collected following the auction was directed to the "ASSIST" Center of the Society for Children and Parents SCOP, a support center for the children of Ukrainian refugees in Timișoara, in order to purchase Christmas presents for them.

The organizers propose that this event become a tradition in the life of the West University of Timișoara and the community.
