germAct – June 2-10, 2022

The Faculty of Music and Theater organized, between 2-10.06.2022, the first edition of the performing arts festival germAct. The event brought into the spotlight theater productions, chamber recitals, concerts, book presentations, evenings of songs and poetry, VR, performances, projections and, last but not least, a series of workshops for high school students passionate about theater.

"germAct was born from the desire to give a gift to the Timisoara community, to highlight the young performers of the Faculty of Music and Theater alongside their masters - whether we are talking about actors, instrumentalists or lyrical artists, to bring to the center of attention the opportunity to study acting in German at UVT. At the completion of thirty years of existence, the specialization Performing Arts - acting in German language established by Ildiko Jarczek-Zamfirescu, Hans Lengenfelder and Ida Jarczek Gaza is redefining itself by co-opting some renowned teachers from Romania and the German expression space to become attractive not only for students of German-language high schools in the country, but also for candidates from Austria, Switzerland and Germany. germAct it is the first of a series of events aimed at clearly marking this transformation", said Alina Mazilu, the initiator of the festival and the director of the event.

The official opening took place on June 2 at 19.30:XNUMX p.m., in the hall of the Timișoara German State Theater - partner of the event - with Synergies. Stylistic interactions in the interpretation of the students of the specialization Performing Arts – acting in German, created by the well-known director and teacher Niky Wolcz, visiting teacher of the West University of Timișoara.

An important component of the event was represented by the workshops intended for students: thus, young theater enthusiasts could enroll in five workshops coordinated by: Niky Wolcz, Florin Vidamski from the Athanor Theater Academy in Passau, Alexandru Mihăescu, Costa Tovarnisky and Diana Katharina. Another unique event, designed to facilitate the chance for students to meet the actual work of performing a role, was an open class offered by the actress Silvia Török, associate teacher of the Faculty of Music and Theatre.

In conclusion germAct, which took place on Friday, June 10, from 17.30:XNUMX p.m. at the Baroque Hall of the Timișoara National Art Museum, the public could enjoy the release of the album The hermetic harmony of the cosmos by Gabriel Kelemen and one evening Gustav Mahler through a recital offered by the first soloist of the Bucharest National Opera Silvia-Sorina Munteanu, accompanied on the piano by Silviana-Ana Cîrdu and accompanied by the actors NANA and Alexandru Mihăescu, who recited poems by Friedrich Rückert.

The festival is organized in partnership with Asociația Culturală 3600, Central University Library "Eugen Todoran" Timișoara, House of Culture of Students Timișoara, German Cultural Center Timișoara, County Directorate for Culture Timișoara, French Institute Timișoara, National Museum of Banat, National Museum of Art Timișoara, Basque Theatre, German State Theater Timisoara and Timisoara Film Society.

The event took place in the context of preparations for the Timișoara European Capital of Culture program in 2023, in which the West University of Timișoara assumed an essential role.
