Historians and elite researchers, in conference at UVT

The Department of Romanian Studies within the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of UVT is going to organize, between March 16-17, the international conference "Borders and communities in Central and South-Eastern Europe".

The purpose of this event is to connect historians from central and south-eastern Europe, to open dialogue between neighboring historiographies, this space being in the past one of contacts and conflicts between the West and the East and, at the same time, a model of cohabitation. From Late Antiquity to the present, people and communities in the central European area, regardless of language and ethnicity, have been forced to live together, sometimes within the same borders, sometimes apart.

The communications debate the political, religious and cultural issues, but also the social history of the communities in the border areas, the exchange of ideas and goods, as well as the way of reporting people at the borders. Subjects such as violence in the Middle Ages, pandemic situations in the modern period, witchcraft trials, the status of minorities or the fate of cultural heritage represent as many interesting historical research routes.

More than 100 elite researchers, as well as researchers at the beginning of their careers, historians and archaeologists, from the largest university and academic centers of Romania as well as from England, Italy, Hungary, Serbia, the Republic of Moldova, Macedonia and Poland.

Due to the pandemic situation, the conference proceedings will take place exclusively online, the entire program, as well as the related links, being available here: https://litere.uvt.ro/wp-content/uploads/2021_Borders_Final_program_abstracts.pdf
