Nadia Murad, born in 1993 in Kocho, Iraq, became the first UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking in 2016.
At the age of 21, Nadia was kidnapped by the Islamic State in northern Iraq, along with thousands of other women and children. For three months, she lived in captivity and was subjected to abuse. With courage and resilience, she managed to escape and flee to Germany, where she began her fight for human rights.
Nadia Murad dedicated herself to the refugee cause, highlighting its plight, especially the sexual slavery and trafficking of women and children subjugated by the Islamic State.
