MicroMAPS

The "Micro Maps" exhibition event, in its first edition, proposes an artistic research space centered on image explorations through optical microscopy experiments, digital and alternative photographic experiments.

The presented projects were centered on the investigation from the microscopic space, which reveals new and new unexploited spaces, with a visual identity and morphology of its own. The sources of these complex maps encompassed a great diversity of expression: from the complexity of the organic world, the polychromy and stratigraphy of a work of art, to the multitude of surfaces and textures of objects in the environment. We witness how a macro lens captures the color structure and textures of the organic world, while the multiple views of the photomicrograph were used to extract structural and form information.

The exhibition brings together more than 50 visual artists, restorers, heritage researchers, who presented photographic projects dedicated to urban space, cultural and natural heritage.

Initiated in 2021 by the Regional Center for Research and Expertise in Restoration and Conservation of the Faculty of Arts and Design in Timișoara in partnership with the National Museum of Art Timișoara, the event is part of the research project Visual arts, perspectives and networking aimed at opening the artistic field through the multiple perspectives it implies towards related fields of scientific research. The mission of the project is to identify and develop tools that support collaboration and dialogue aimed at interconnected research themes, through a complex approach that brings together both the expertise of the sciences and the creative resources of visual artists.

The curatorial team consists of a university lecturer. Dr. Silvia Trion, university lecturer. Dr. Filip Petcu, university lecturer.
