Virtual mobilities for the first time, within the UNITA university network

The Western University of Timisoara opens for its students a new perspective of living the international academic experience. Starting with the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, UVT offers them the opportunity to participate in virtual study mobility in partner universities abroad.

This is possible, for the first time, in the context in which UVT is part, starting from 2020, of the UNITA European alliance, which implements, in a consortium of six international partners, the UNITA – Universitas Montium project, under the umbrella of the Erasmus+ European Universities initiative . The consortium brings together universities whose communities total over 165 students, from various European countries speaking Romance languages (Italy, France, Spain, Romania and Portugal), and which operate in similar geographical, cultural and socio-economic ecosystems. UVT is allied in the UNITA – Universitas Montium European network with: Università degli studi di Torino, Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour, Université Savoie Mont Blanc, Universidad de Zaragoza and Universidade Beira Interior.

About the initiation of this new award, the Rector of UVT, prof. dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, emphasizes: "Through this approach, which is piloting the virtual mobilities at the level of the UNITA alliance this academic year, we ensure the continuity of the study abroad experience for UVT students, because we are aware of the opportunities it has on the professional and personal development of the students. Our objective, however, is twofold. Thus, in addition to the offer made to students, we want to be prepared for the next financial exercise at the European level, in which the Erasmus program will benefit from a larger budget, and the virtual and digital component is expected to be significant. In this way, UVT is in the trend of European university education, together with the partners from UNITA – Universitas Montium. Have access to a course organized by Università degli studi di Torino (IT), Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (FR), Université Savoie Mont Blanc (FR), Universidad de Zaragoza (ES) or Universidade Beira Interior ( PT) from you in the country, to learn with colleagues and teaching staff from these universities, and then to have your effort recognized and equaled at home, at UVT, represents a chance that we have tried to offer to our students, now".

Given the impact of the pandemic on the physical mobility of studies abroad, the UNITA Alliance comes up with an alternative, through an offer of online courses that students of any of the six universities can access through virtual mobility. Thus, students will be able to follow and graduate courses offered online by the partner institutions, and these will be recognized and equated to them as part of the study program, according to the already known model of Erasmus+ mobility abroad. The selection takes place during this period, through a fully digitized process, the evaluation being carried out at the partner universities. The subsequent recognition and equivalence of the courses at UVT will also take place online.
