Within the project ROSE II/AG375/SGU/SS/III/2020 "Quality counseling to support learning" was organized on November 18, 2020, at 14.00 p.m., online, on Google meet https://meet.google.com/lookup/hflm2y7ji5?authuser=0&hs=179, a Patchwork Workshop.
What is PATCHWORK?
Patchwork is a sewing technique made up of several pieces of multi-colored textile materials, cut into perfectly symmetrical shapes or identical in size and then sewn together to create a unitary piece.
Nothing is thrown away, everything is transformed!
Through patchwork, textile art gives new life to waste, through a lot of imagination and talent. Their creation requires patience, attention to detail and an artistic sense, the end result is worth all the effort invested. Old textiles, as colorful as possible, cut and cut into rigorous shapes are transformed into new products with a much more interesting design.
Textiles non-elastic cottons are most often used in this technique. They were cut according to a template in a geometric shape (square, rectangle) from cardboard or thicker paper of different sizes. The arrangement of the forms was done in such a way as to obtain an artistic composition. The sewing stage is perhaps the most important stage in the entire technological process. The sewing reserve must be respected, the angles sewn perfectly at 90 degrees in our case, the joints of the materials perfect, the interphase ironing mandatory. Checking dimensions and straightening materials is mandatory to produce a quality job.
First year students saw what it means to know how to sew straight and what can be made from scraps/ scraps of fabric. A little imagination and patience in finding solutions by combining materials recreates the mind and works of art can be made. Nowadays this technique has become a hobby.
The workshop offered the opportunity to make small decorative panels. The participants of this workshop were initiated into a new technique of combining textile materials on geometric shapes, which can be used in both textile and clothing design.
