The West University of Timișoara celebrates contemporary universal values ​​and offers the Timișoara community a high-impact event, within the cultural program "Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture". The Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk, laureate of the Nobel Prize for literature, is invited and honored during the two cultural meetings organized by the West University of Timișoara.

The first of these will take place on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 19.30:XNUMX p.m., in the Aula Magna of UVT, when the prestigious writer will offer a vision of the culture and literature of the border space located between East and West, participating in a public debate moderated by the writer Radu Paraschivescu. We have the distinct honor of inviting you to participate in this cultural meeting, to which entry is free (to register, please fill in this FORM).

On April 4, from 10 a.m., also in the Aula Magna, the academic community from UVT will award the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the renowned writer Orhan Pamuk, in a special celebration for the Romanian and European cultural and intellectual space, in the year in which Timișoara is the European Capital of Culture. We invite you to participate in this academic ceremony, to which the entrance is free (for registration, it is at your disposal the same FORM).

The winner of the Nobel prize for literature is in the gallery of the most famous contemporary Turkish writers, his works have been translated into more than 40 languages ​​and published in more than 100 countries. Among the most important themes that play a central role in his works, the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk evokes the relationship between Eastern and Western culture, but also the strong specificity of the Turkish mentality, in which floats the multiple melancholy that can also be felt in the air of Istanbul, explained by Orhan Pamuk through the term of hüzün a specifically Turkish synonym for melancholy as understood by Western Europeans.

The two events are part of the cultural program "At UVT, Culture is Capital!", included in the Cultural Program "Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture", Oameni territory, Reflectiţi station, financed by the Municipality of Timișoara through the Project Center.
