The football team of the University of the West in Timișoara, representing Romania at the European University Games that is currently being held in Poland, in Lodz, brings the best result achieved by a Romanian university team in the history of the European University Games.

After a meritorious qualification obtained in group B, through victories against the representative of Ukraine (State University of Economics and Trade), with 1-0, and against the representative of Germany (University of Tubingen), also with 1-0, on the evening of July 25 , the UVT team defeated the representative of Norway (Norwegian Economics School) with 3-1, in the quarter-final played, with two goals scored by Răzvan Pițigoi and an own goal by the Norwegians.

The qualification in the semifinal of the European University Games 2022, achieved by the UVT team, marks an absolute first for the participation of Romanian university representatives in the history of this competition, the performance of entering the box of the first four representatives at the European level, rising to this level for the first time the Romanian participation in the European competition.
