UVT is present for the first time in the ranking Moscow International University Ranking "The Three University Missions" (MosIUR), 2020 Edition. This international ranking evaluates and ranks higher education institutions according to the three key university missions (education, research and interaction with society). UVT is, at the moment, the only university in Timișoara that is in this top.
The 2020 results place UVT in 6th place nationally and in the top 1301-1400 worldwide. The ranking includes 1500 higher education institutions from 97 countries.
The rector of the Western University of Timișoara, prof. dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, appreciates the new recognition of UVT's international performances: "Universities with an international scope today have implemented the academic and scientific mechanisms through which they correlate the performance of education, high-level research and the assumption of public responsibilities in society. And UVT, along with the other universities of the "University Consortium", benefits from this year's confirmation of its successes in terms of the three directions of university development, by ranking in the MosIUR ranking. Once more, and through this confirmation, we assume a conduct oriented towards modern education, advanced research and involvement for the future of the community in which we are, on a European model of higher education. In a period of great restrictions and multiple uncertainties, related to the risks of the pandemic, UVT seeks to train the trusted resources of students, teachers, parents of students and generations of graduates, alike, to provide continuity and quality in the study programs of the 11 component faculties, so that every future UVT student and graduate discovers the best version of himself."
The 16 performance indicators of the MosIUR ranking, launched for the first time in 2017, are divided into 3 categories: Education (45%), Research (25%) and University and Society (30%). MosIUR is based on the data available on the official websites of the universities, on the information from the Clarivate Analytics databases (InCites and Global Institutional Profiles Project (GIPP)), but also on the online education platforms Coursera and edX, along with Wikipedia, by search engines (Google, Yandex, Baidu), as well as social networks (Facebook, Twitter, VK, Sina Weibo), Alexa web source, international student competition web portals and IREG academic awards websites (List of International Academic Awards).
From Romania, along with the Western University of Timișoara, all the other member universities of the University Consortium are present in this international classification: University of Bucharest, Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași and the Academy of Economic Studies from Bucharest.
