The first European certification in Romania in building with earth, held at UVT

In The Urban Garden of the Western University in Timișoara, the first European certification in Romania took place in the field building with earth, in the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET/SECEFP).

ECVET modules for acquiring skills in building with earth - under the aegis UNESCO Chair "Earth Architecture, Constructive Cultures and Sustainable Development" – are designed for use around the world in a wide range of different economic, geographical, cultural and learning environments. Both the content of the educational material and the wide range of skills acquired by those trained allow the training courses to be adapted from the level of beginners to that of professionals or specialists.

The course held at UVT was coordinated by Alina Negru, PhD student at UVT and member of RHeA, and addressed to those who have a basic and beginner level knowledge of the constructive and decorative material earth. Participants are part of the cultural initiative About the earth, as representatives of some constant collaborators of the Western University in Timișoara, such as RecultAssociation for the Promotion and Development of Tourism in Timiș (APDT)Studio Landscape.

This professional training is possible thanks to the European network Learn·Earth (Formation·Land), as well as associations TherapyClay (Sdružení hliněného stavitelství) and Earth&Crafts, which is active in the European environment of land heritage rehabilitation.

UVT rector, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "Traditions are very dear here in Banat. Among them are the techniques of building earthen houses. Awareness campaigns are also welcome, including documenting, practicing and imparting endangered local earth building techniques so that beneficiaries are prepared to maintain their earth houses. We are honored to announce that the West University of Timișoara has brought the first certification of this type in Romania, through the ECVET Modules for acquiring skills in building with earth."
