On November 29, 2021, a new lecture from the Romanian Diaspora@WUT Guest Lectures/Workshops series took place at the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology (initiative of the Department of International Relations at the Western University of Timișoara), facilitated by the Center for Corpus Related Digital Approaches to Humanities (CODHUS). The guest of this session was Prof. Dr. Dragoș Ciobanu, professor of computational terminology and machine translation from the Translation Center at the University of Vienna. The lecture is titled Artificial Intelligence at the service of terminologists and translators and was moderated by Dr. Habil. Mădălina Chitez, CODHUS director.
The event was attended by LIT teachers and researchers, members of the Timisoara university community, but also students interested in the topics discussed: from information resources, automatic translation tools (machine translation), to available courses, developed projects and possible joint initiatives .
With extensive experience in the use of digital tools in translation and speech recognition, Prof. Dr. Dragoș Ciobanu obtained a PhD in corpus linguistics in 2006 at the University of Leeds, an institution with which he collaborated until 2020. Since October 2020, he is a professor at Department of Translation of the University of Vienna and coordinates the research group HAITrans (https://haitrans.univie.ac.at/).
