Caravana CoderDojo summer school – Building the Future of Computer Science, at UVT

Between July 3-7, 2023, Coder Dojo UVT through the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, together with the Ora lui Robert Association, is organizing the CoderDojo Caravan Summer School - Building the Future of Computer Science. This event takes place in the premises of the Western University of Timișoara, offering the children and young people of the city the opportunity to explore and enjoy the world of IT and technology through interactive workshops and fun activities.

The second edition of the Caravana CoderDojo Summer School offers children and young people from Timișoara a five-day excursion to familiarize themselves with and explore the field of computer science in an interactive and fun way. Participants have the opportunity to develop cognitive and technical skills such as logical thinking, problem solving and programming through hands-on experiences.

We are proud to have the support of the following partners in this initiative: Sciințescu TimisoaraTimisoara Community FoundationHamilton Central EuropeBosch Romania FoundationRomanian-American Foundation and the Federation of Community Foundations from Romania.

Through strong partnerships with organizations and companies such as Asociatia Ora lui Robert, Volvo Autocardo, Decathlon, Profi and Probotech, we have been able to support this initiative and contribute to its success and impact.

With a diverse program, the CoderDojo Caravana Summer School offers participants a wide range of options. They have the opportunity to explore Edison robot programming and machine learning with Scratch, 3D printing and micro-controllers, Python game programming, digital graphics, as well as internet safety workshops. Each workshop and activity lasts 40 minutes, ensuring a variety of experiences for all participants.

The Caravana CoderDojo summer school has attracted dozens of participants so far. The event is open to all children and young people in Timișoara, and the workshops and activities are adapted to suit the needs and knowledge level of the participants. We are pleased to include beneficiaries from disadvantaged backgrounds and institutionalized centers, offering them the unique opportunity to develop in an innovative and stimulating environment.

The Caravana CoderDojo summer school benefits from the involvement of 10 student volunteers, who are alongside teachers and mentors in facilitating workshops and activities.

About Coder Dojo @UVT – is an initiative group, coordinated by Lect. Dr. Alexandra Fortiș and Lect. Dr. Sebastian-Aurelian Ștefănigă from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics UVT, dedicated to non-formal learning of informatics and intended for children and young people from Timișoara and its surroundings.

About the "Robert's Time" Association - is a non-profit, apolitical organization that runs programs dedicated to children from institutionalized centers and from disadvantaged backgrounds. The mission of the association is to contribute to increasing the degree of inclusion of these children in the life of the community, through educational, vocational, social or ecological projects that help them have more chances for a fulfilled life.
