The series of conferences organized under the banner "At UVT Cultura e Capitală" continues in the new academic year.
The first guest of this series is Alexandru Stermin, who proposes a fascinating title: "Jungle expeditions from Brazil and from us".
The conference will be moderated by the literary critic Mircea Mihăieș and will take place in the Aula Magna UVT, Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 18:00.
Alexandru N. Stermin is a biologist and explorer. He teaches courses on comparative anatomy of vertebrates, neurobiology and brain evolution, ethology, bioethics and human ecology at the Faculty of Biology and Geology of Babeș Bolyai University in Cluj. He has degrees in biology and theology, completed a master's degree in philosophy and a training program in positive psychotherapy.
He participated in expeditions in the jungle of South America and in Siberia, he was a scholar at the University of Greifswald and at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. He is actively involved in the popularization of science and nature conservation. In 2015 he contributed to the Fauna of Romania (Birds) series published by the Romanian Academy.
In 2017 he released his first book, "Journal of an Ornithologist", in 2021 "Journey Around Man", and in 2022 "Fallen from the Jungle: Stories of an Exploratory", which became Humanitas bestsellers. He writes articles in Sinteza and National Geographic magazines.
He received from Babeș Bolyai University the Excellence Award for cultural involvement and openness to the community (2021), as well as the Excellence in Education Award (2022).
"Jungle Expeditions in Brazil and Us" is an invitation to adventure, to explore the jungles of Brazil and the jungles of us. A setting in which we will try to discover the relationship between us and Nature, with its lights and shadows.
Like any encounter with the jungle, the conference will be an occasion of wonder, a journey through which our curiosity is animated.
The conference "Jungle expeditions from Brazil and from us" is organized by the West University of Timișoara. This event is part of the "Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture" Cultural Program, Oameni territory, Reflectiţi station, is financed by the Municipality of Timișoara through the Project Center and co-financed by the Timiș County Council.
