International training internships for UVT students from the Didactic Master's programs

The Didactic Master's programs, organized by the Western University of Timișoara, provided for several exploratory activities and exchange of good practices, carried out, in particular, through international training courses.

"Creativity in Teaching Summer School" (Brno, Czech Republic)

Inside the project "Start your career with a master's degree in teaching” (MySmis Code 2014+:140783), teaching staff and students had the opportunity to participate in the mobility carried out at the Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic), within the “Creativity in Teaching Summer School” program, between July 11-15, 2022 .

To program activities "Creativity in Teaching Summer School" the teaching staff Prof. Dr. Marioara Nicoleta Filimon (Carabă), Lecturer Dr. Diana Roman and Lecturer Dr. Daniela Dascălu participated, who were with the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Professor Emanuela Alisa Nica and Professor Eugen Lungu, but also students Iulia Gallo, Dorian Erdei, Cristina Toma, Diana Alexan, Andrei Bărbut, Diana Ciucian, Adriana Kiss, Ramona Humeniuc and Tamas Gergely. The participants followed the training program daily, with plenary sessions as well as in small working groups. Among the topics that were addressed in the course were:

  • Effective use of creative thinking in teaching practice,
  • In-person teaching styles,
  • The use of teaching and assessment materials and tools in a hybrid and online system,
  • Stimulating students' motivation for learning,
  • Theories of creativity applicable to teaching,
  • Development of creative materials for in-person courses.

At the end of the training course, all students were evaluated on the basis of a questionnaire with items from the material presented in the course, but also with aspects related to giving feedback to the teaching staff involved in the teaching process and those involved in the organization.

Diana Alexan, mobility student from Brno: “For me, participating in the Summer School "Creativity in Teaching" organized by the Linguistic Center of the Masaryk University in Brno, meant the discovery of innovative teaching methods and tools, I perceived it as a challenge from which I had a lot to learn. Wanting to teach Biology, an exact science, it is important that the lessons are attractive and interesting for the students, and the courses during these mobility days have shown me that any subject can be taught in a fun, creative, but very effective way. I was excited to find teachers who gave interesting courses with many practical elements, and I think that all these formulas made us go out of our comfort zone and realize how useful creativity can be in the educational process."

"Intercultural Competence" (Groningen, Netherlands)

Teaching staff and students from the teaching master's program had the opportunity to participate in the mobility organized in the Netherlands, at the University of Groningen, between July 17-21, 2022, within the "Intercultural Competence" program.

Within the mobility from University of Groningen, the UVT team participated in the program activities "Intercultural Competence". In the team from UVT there were Prof. Dr. Nicoleta Adina Stefu, Prof. Dr. Darius Borovic, Prof. Dr. Marioara Carabă, lecturer Dr. Simona Adam, assistant. dr. Adina Datcu, who participated in the training program activities within the program together with the students: Valentina Luiza Galbenu, Iulia Gallo, Dorian Emeric Erdei, Andreea Cornelia Biricioiu, Florina Biro, Daniel-Gabriel Urs, Catalina Raluca Doroftei, Mihai-Teodor Damian, Iulia Adelina Bunduruș and Ramona Humeniuc. The participants followed the training course program daily, with plenary sessions as well as in small activity groups. The supporting material for the topics taught, discussed, analyzed and debated during the course were also made available to the students in online format, for each topic addressed. The main topics that were addressed during the training course were those grouped around the titles given to the work modules:

  • How do cultures differ?
  • Models of intercultural development,
  • Development of intercultural competences,
  • The concept of the Iceberg of culture,
  • Universal, personal and cultural in human behavior.

The presentations were accompanied by discussions and exercises, organized in working groups of 3-4 people. The exercises were also a way of formative assessment, with course participants receiving feedback and recommendations from the trainers at the University of Groningen. At the end of the teaching internship, all trainees completed a feedback questionnaire regarding the conduct and organization of the course.

Cătălina Doroftei, mobility student from Groningen: "For me, the experience I had in Groningen, offered by the Didactic Master, was unique. And this in its entirety, starting from the course that was explained to us in detail by a teacher, who treated us as if we were students of their university, to the collective that we had. I had a few days spent with my colleagues and teaching staff from the University of West Timișoara, which I cannot compare with other experiences. Overall, this course and trip to Groningen was one I will not forget."
