Between May 4-6, 2023, the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University in Iasi hosted the "Traian Lalescu" National Student Mathematics Competition. Marian-Daniel Vasile, a student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Western University of Timișoara, obtained the first prize in Section A, dedicated to the faculties of mathematics and informatics, with a score of 39 points out of a total of 40 (the score maximum obtained in this competition).
The National Student Mathematics Competition "Traian Lalescu" has an annual character, being organized by rotation by the university centers in the country. It is practically a national student mathematics Olympiad, the only one at this level in the country, structured in five sections: Section A: Faculties of Mathematics (Years I-II); Section B: Technical Faculties – electrical profile, Informatics Faculties (Year I); Section C: Technical faculties – non-electrical profile (Year I); Section D: Special mathematics – Technical faculties, electrical profile (Year II); Section E: Special Mathematics – Technical faculties, non-electrical profile (Year II).
This year, the competition was organized by the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University in Iași, between May 4 and 6, with 82 students from five university centers in the country (Bucharest, Brașov, Cluj, Iași and Timișoara) participating. This year, Marian-Daniel Vasile also participated in the South Eastern European Mathematical Olympiad for University Student (SEEMOUS-2023) - organized in Skopje, North Macedonia, where he won first prize , with 40 points out of as many contested.
The FMI-UVT student team that participates in the student competitions is trained by a group of teaching staff of the faculty, a group coordinated by the lect. university Dr. Mihai Chiș.
