"Timișoara: December 1989" - screening of the first documentary about the Timișoara Revolution

To mark the commemoration of the Timișoara Revolution within the special closing program of Timișoara - European Capital of Culture, the University of the West and the Project Center invite you to the screening of the film "Timișoara: December 1989", directed by Ovidiu Bose Paştină.

"Timișoara: December 1989", directed by Ovidiu Bose Paştina (1h 18min), is the first documentary about the Revolution in Timișoara, made at the beginning of 1990 and produced by Sahia Film. The film won the Grand Prize at the Neubrandenburg Documentary Festival in Germany and was shown at the Berlin and Munich film festivals. At the Yamagata Film Festival in Japan, it was selected among the world's best documentaries.

The event is open to the general public, subject to capacity, with no ticket or reservation required at Cinema Victoria to attend.

The screening will be followed by an engaging dialogue entitled "December '89: The Road to Europe", in which the following will take part:

Vasile Popovici: writer, university professor and diplomat. He was an active participant in the revolution from day one and played an important role in the democratization of society in the early years after December 1989.

Cătălin Ranco Pițu: former chief military prosecutor at the Military Prosecutor's Office, with the rank of general. He managed the indictment in the "Revolution File".

Corneliu Vaida: participant in the revolution starting on December 16, 1989, spokesperson of the revolutionary committee in Opera and of the Timișoara Garrison in 1990. He is a civic activist and involved in the public life of the city.

Geanina Jugănaru: master in Political Science at UVT and at the University of Padua – Italy. Representative for Intersnack Romania. Dumitru Jugănaru's daughter, killed on December 17 on Calea Girocului Timișoara.

David Secosan: student in the twelfth grade at CD Loga High School, passionate about literature, history and the recent past of the city. He is oriented towards film direction.

The event is part of the official program of the closure of Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023, held within the national cultural program "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture", and is financed by the program Inside Timișoara 2023, carried out by the Project Center of the Municipality of Timișoara , with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture and co-financed by the Timiș County Council, through the TimCultura 2023 program.
