The Spanish-American poetry translation competition in Romanian resumes an initiative of the cultural association Viarumania Cultura, which, between 2011 and 2014, offered culture lovers an attempt to put their knowledge of the Spanish language and their love for poetry to the service of translation in Romanian of some poems written in Spanish. Dozens of people participated in the previous editions, and the most meritorious results were rewarded with generous prizes.
This year, after the common ordeal caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, we propose to resume this initiative under the patronage of the University of the West in Timisoara and the honorary consulates of Spain, Mexico and the Republic of Peru in Timisoara.
We therefore propose three poems written by poets from Spain, Mexico and Peru, to which is added one chosen by each of the participants. They must send the three poems translated into Romanian, together with the freely chosen poem (in the original version and the Romanian translation) on the contest website, hosted by the West University of Timisoara.
In order to ensure the objectivity of the judging, the participants will choose a pseudonym: the members of the jury will not know the real name of the poetry translator, it being possible to find out only when the winners will be announced. There are no age or geographical origin limitations (Romanian speakers from any country can participate).
Participants must send an e-mail to the address poesia@viarumania.com, until September 15, 2021, with the subject "Participation in the Spanish-American poetry translation contest 2021".
