Held between May 4 and 9, in Agros, Cyprus, the Balkan Mathematics Olympiad ended with a notable success of the senior Olympic Team representing Romania. The team won six medals - two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal - as well as the first team place, in the XXXIX edition of the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) for seniors.
In the coordination of the Romanian team is the university professor. Dr. Cătălin-Liviu Gherghe, from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Bucharest (team leader), together with lect. Dr. Mihai Chiş, from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Western University of Timișoara (deputy leader), UVT academic staff whose contribution is a major success for Romanian mathematics, a result that honors the Timișoara university center and UVT.
The students with gold medals are Andrei Moldovan (15th grade) and David-Andrei Anghel (XNUMXth grade), from the International High School of Informatics in Bucharest, with whom the silver and bronze medals were awarded to students Diana Țolu, Robert Dragomirescu and Andrei Giovani Chiriță, respectively Radu-Andrei Lecoiu. This year's edition of the Balkan Olympics for seniors was attended by teams from XNUMX countries, representing Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Serbia (member states with permanent status) and Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Italy, Kazakhstan and Great Britain (invited).
