UVT, in the top of the best universities, from 48 countries with emerging economies

According to the Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021 classification, carried out by the British magazine The Times Higher Education, the Western University of Timişoara is in the top 501+ of the best 606 universities, from 48 countries of the Emerging Economies area.

The rector of UVT, university professor Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, acting president of the University Consortium, emphasizes the significance of this international ranking result: "The Western University of Timișoara is among the 13 universities in Romania included in this international ranking. We are in the first echelon of Romanian universities with international visibility, from the area of ​​countries with emerging economies, a first echelon of Romanian universities that include the other partner universities with UVT in the University Consortium (Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, University of Bucharest, "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iași and the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest), a result that can only make us happy and motivate us additionally, in the context of the increasingly advanced dynamics of the international competition in which we find ourselves".

Any country with an advanced emerging, secondary emerging or frontier economy according to the FTSE Country Classification Process was eligible for inclusion in the assessment. Universities are excluded from the analysis for the ranking of emerging economies if they do not carry out teaching activities and if their scientific output in the period 2015-2019 was less than 1.000 articles (with at least 150 articles per year). Also, higher education institutions are excluded if 80% or more of their activity is dedicated exclusively to one of the 11 areas of THE World University Rankings.

The universities' activity was evaluated according to 13 performance indicators, grouped under the aspect of teaching activity (30%), research activity (30%), the impact of research results - citations (20%), international activity (10%) and knowledge transfer to the socioeconomic environment (10%).

More than 2021 million citations, 86 million scientific articles, article reviews, conference papers, books and book chapters, published over five years, were examined for the 13.6 ranking. The data includes more than 24.000 academic journals indexed by the Scopus database and all publications indexed between 2015 and 2019. Citations of these publications made in the six years from 2015 to 2020 are also collected.
