In a society with vulnerable people and communities, there is a need for professionals to provide specialized support in ameliorating social problems. Such professionals have been trained at the Western University of Timișoara for over thirty years, within the Department of Social Assistance at the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology. University teaching staff in this specialization cover the expertise needed to train social workers through courses in sociology and psychology, social medicine, legislation, community development and social policies.
On Tuesday, March 19, at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, the tenth edition of the National Gala of Social Assistance took place, on the occasion of the world day dedicated to the field. At this event, in the education and training section, the prize was won by Mrs. lect.univ.dr. Loredana – Marcela Trancă, coordinator of specialized practice activities at the Department of Social Assistance, owner of courses dedicated to people with disabilities, with experience in national and international projects in the field.
The National Gala of Social Assistance is the event where social workers from all over the country, authorities, journalists and many other guests celebrate the achievements of the social worker profession, to convey a message about the awareness of contributions in the social field and the need for further actions. The prize for education was offered for the second year in a row to a teacher from the same university, the winner of this trophy in 2023 being conf.univ.dr. Elena Loreni Baciu, from the same UVT department. Mrs. conf. univ. dr. Elena Loreni Baciu is a recognized researcher in the field of social assistance, who has successfully completed numerous intervention projects in the field, teaching staff of the department since 2005.
UVT rector, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "The prize obtained by the Department of Social Assistance of the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology of UVT is an indicator of the quality of the educational act offered to our students from the bachelor's, master's and doctoral cycles. The National Gala of Social Assistance represents a representative framework for the most important national and international projects in the field, and the recognition of the merits of the Timisoara school of social assistance, offered by the awarding of Mrs. lect.univ.dr. Loredana – Marcela Trancă, is a well-deserved confirmation of the value of the activity in this department of UVT."
