Found in the first edition, UVTerra Gala 2023 was dedicated to the common successes achieved this year, to the successful projects that the UVT academic community developed together with strategic partners from the community, institutions and organizations from the socio-economic environment, where many of the graduates build and develop their careers UVT, from several generations. The belonging to the UVT community of those who are today leaders of companies and partner organizations facilitated the realization of long-term projects and the development of practical ideas, beneficial to both today's students and former students of UVT, in the development of their careers. At the end of 2023, the UVTerra Gala, a first edition of this event of the UVT alumni community, contributed to the recognition of the merits of UVT collaborators from the socio-economic environment, by awarding seven excellence awards for the year 2023.
The guests present at the UVTerra Gala 2023, but also all those who are with the UVT community with their minds and hearts, as graduates from different generations, are expected to register in the UVT alumni community on the specialized website intended for online communication in it community, online environment where all information related to career opportunities and specialized events for graduates are updated, using the application form available at uvterra.uvt.ro. We believe that it is a moment of balance but also one of restart, a natural stage, in which the generations of UVT graduates seek to coagulate in an alumni community more aware of its value, more adapted to the times, more present in social life and economic, for growth and professional consecration, for the future.

UVT rector, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, at the opening of the UVTerra Gala: "I thank all those who are with us, the community of the West University of Timișoara, in a moment of great joy. They say that an end is a beginning, and today, at the end of the year, when we look at what we have achieved from January to December, we see how several successes have aligned, in which you participated.
Beyond the walls of our well-known buildings, many of them historical monuments, among which the central building designed by the valuable architect Hans Fackelmann takes pride of place, we emphasize the spirit, it is what characterizes all of us in the community, teaching staff, students, researchers, graduates. Among the three strategic directions that our university focuses on, education, research and social involvement, today I want to pay special attention to the third one, that of the university as an agora of society, a university that burns like a flame. Education, as they say, is not about filling a vessel, it is about taming a flame.
At this year's SMART-Diaspora Conference, organized together with the other three partner universities in Timișoara, members of ATU, attended by over 1200 guests, we said that Timișoara is the zero kilometer of Romanian democracy. We are also trying to turn UVT into the zero-kilometer institution for the rebirth of a spirit of Timișoara that wants to go beyond its limits, to have an international scope - just as the city has its international scope - through our European alliances, participating in on an equal footing with the great universities of the world, as far as our resources allow. UVT has grown a lot, it vibrates, it has vibes, it has a flame, and this life is due to you, to everyone who is at this UVTerra Gala today, as well as to many other soul friends.
The fact that partners are next to us, that graduates from several generations are here, gives us the conviction and confidence that what we are doing is very good. This year, an exceptional one, we proposed to Timișoara to illuminate the city that is the European Capital of Culture through enlightened minds. We invited five Nobel laureates, an unprecedented fact even at the national level, but also brilliant minds of the world, philosophers, writers, scientists from all continents. Through what we did, we tried to bring added value to the local community, precisely because UVT is an agora, a university without walls, in its spirit, as we like to say, which brings massive value to the community of which it is a part . That is why I am convinced that you are also with us, as partners, because you know that together we bring added value to the community.
I say that every end is a beginning because at the end of the year we think about the next year. This will be a special one, when UVT celebrates its 80th anniversary. We say every time that we are not the biggest university in Romania, nor the oldest, but we are certainly the most dynamic, the most innovative, the most vibrant. Of course, the age of 80 years is already a tradition, which obliges us, because, according to the words of Vasile Pârvan - without tradition there is no culture, neither the simple man nor the genius can create anything without tradition - and our tradition is being strengthened every year of the year, through our graduates, through the well-known people who are our ambassadors all over the world. Thank you once again for being with us today and permanently, and we guarantee that UVT will remain the same living university."
