“Entrepreneurship in Blockchain” – Conclusions and Future Directions

Online conference at UVT

The Western University of Timișoara, engaged in an approach to integration within the most advanced trends of European higher education, proposes programs and fields of study and research at the vanguard of European university education. One such area of innovation, to which UVT focuses its resources and projects, is that of Blockchain technology, the "technology of trust", one of the fundamental technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, the one that will change the web from an environment of information into one of value. The new graduate program "Blockchain Entrepreneurship" debuted this year, and the first class of graduates held an online event, the webinar “Entrepreneurship in Blockchain” – Conclusions and Future Directions, organized on the occasion of the graduation of the program by the first series of students.

The first postgraduate program in the country dedicated to Blockchain technology, took place with the support of specialists in the field from the Western University of Timișoara, the Politehnica University of Timișoara, the "Ioan Slavici" University of Timișoara, as well as from national and international companies and institutions: Banca National of Romania, Startup Transilvania – Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Cluj-Napoca, Restart Energy Timișoara, Akasha Switzerland.

The webinar brought together postgraduate program graduates, business or administration specialists implementing Blockchain technologies, UVT decision-makers and program lecturers to conduct a retrospective analysis and identify ideas for the preparation of the next series.

The rector of UVT, prof. univ. dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, emphasized: "UVT is in a permanent process of adaptation, as a European university that explores new trends and technologies of the future. We set a new direction of study and research and thus positioned ourselves as a trendsetter in Romanian university education. We took into account the fact that Blockchain technology is becoming an attractive knowledge and research space for European public institutions, but also for Romanian ones, which led us to initiate this new study program. It seems that we met concrete expectations, from the real economy, the students, now graduates of this new program, coming from many fields and economic sectors, from several areas of the country, especially from companies and organizations that are oriented towards innovation and permanent training, indicating the particularly high level of usefulness of this innovative project."

The European Commission considers Blockchain technology to be a strategic priority and will play a key role in driving innovation across multiple sectors and growing an inclusive, secure and democratic digital economy.

It is also worth noting that Blockchain is among the most sought-after majors at an international level, alongside Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning, Robotics.

Program "Entrepreneurship in Blockchain" takes place over three months and will open a new series of registrations, in June 2021, the courses to be held in the third quarter of 2021, addressing entrepreneurs and specialists from various fields, experts from the financial, banking, legal, from the journalism or software sector, or students from the master's and doctorate university study programs. The professional skills attestation certificate that the graduates of this postgraduate program will benefit from will also be registered on the Blockchain.
