The West University of Timișoara is honored to announce that one of the prizes awarded by the Timișoara Branch of the Romanian Writers' Union for the editorial year 2019 was awarded to the writer Cristina Chevereșan, for the volume "Pilgrims immediately", published by Brumar Publishing House in 2019. Vice-rector of UVT this year, the laureate is an important representative of Timișoara philological studies and an example of the involvement of our university in the life of the community.
In the award-winning volume, the author states: "Divided between fiction and non-fiction, the writings that caught my attention can be found in the collection in the strict order of the publication of the chronicles, taking into account not only the "hot" reactions at the time, but also the personal journey between texts, contexts, pretexts for reflection. The first encounters on the page with some writers sit alongside the discoveries of others, in different poses, eras or perspectives".
The volume is accompanied by the presentation of teacher Adriana Babeți: "Whether she writes about the great American or English authors, or about the books that became movies or about her travels around the world, Cristina Chevereşan has the same attentive, inquisitive look, the same alert style, but above all the same penetrating intelligence to interpret hundreds and hundreds of pages. And, as expected, he doesn't deny himself this time either. But Pilgrims immediately presents it to us as a critic dedicated to today's Romanian literature. The two sections, Stories against forgetting and Life as a document bring together 40 literary chronicles written almost month by month, for more than 10 years. And what unfolds before our eyes is a living picture, drawn with the sure hand of a true connoisseur of literature".
The rector of UVT, prof. univ. dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, conveys on this occasion: "I congratulate her and am extremely happy for our colleague Cristina Chevereșan, awarded this year with one of the most important prizes of the Writers' Union. As we have demonstrated many times, even in this year, dominated by the restrictions of the pandemic, cultural values are essential at UVT, and each individual success does nothing but support this aspiration of ours, to raise culture to the rank of capital, at UVT".
Univ. Assoc. skilled dr. Cristina Chevereșan teaches American literature and civilization courses at the Faculty of Letters, Theology and History of the West University in Timișoara and is the Vice-Chancellor responsible for the internationalization and diaspora strategy.
