Mădălin Bunoiu, physics professor and ARACIS president: Young people no longer have the curiosity to research because they never had the opportunity to try
edupedu.ro

The president of the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS), Mădălin Bunoiu, notes the number of chemistry, physics or biology laboratories in schools, "incredibly small", especially in villages. He was asked during a show broadcast on Radio Romania Cultural, if students have the courage to do research. "Young people don't try because they never had the opportunity to try. If we look at the number of chemistry, physics, biology laboratories that are now found in primary, middle and high schools it is incredibly small. It is a matter of minimum decency that any school, no matter how small, in any village, should have a laboratory", says Mădălin Bunoiu.

Professor at the Faculty of Physics, Mădălin Bunoiu is vice-rector at the University of West Timișoara and president of ARACIS – the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. He explained that due to the "incredibly small" number of chemistry, physics or biology laboratories in schools, especially in villages, young people are not curious to try and experiment with science, which obviously affects research.

"Unfortunately, young, educable people do not have a great curiosity to try, but here I want to say why, because I disapprove of that kind of interlocutor who always says "it's not good, it's not possible", without offering a solution or at least an argument. They don't try because they never had the opportunity to actually try. If we look at the number of chemistry, physics, biology laboratories that are now found in primary, secondary and high schools, it is incredibly small. It is, I would say, a matter of minimal decency that any school, no matter how small, in any village that you can only get to by walking - must have a laboratory. Where, indeed, the number of students is smaller or the resources are less, let it be an integrated one of the sciences, and as the level of education increases, for each of these disciplines that I have mentioned and maybe there are also others, there must be a laboratory. That's where you start to learn, that's where your curiosity comes to try", said Bunoiu.

Iași universities have started pre-registration for admission
bittv.info

Admission to higher education institutions in Iaşi is still far away, but twelfth grade students, as well as high school graduates from previous years, can already prepare their documents for enrolling in the faculties whose courses they wish to attend from Alexandru University Ioan Cuza from Iasi. The oldest modern university in Romania started the online pre-registration of candidates since the beginning of April, while at the "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the second simulation of the competition will take place on April 30 admission, and the "Ion Ionescu de la Brad" University of Life Sciences in Iasi opens the pre-registration session starting on May 2.

What are the advantages if you register at UAIC:

At the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iasi (UAIC), the pre-registration of candidates for bachelor's or master's degree programs began on April 3 and will end on July 9. Pre-registration does not mean reserving a place at the college, but it gives candidates the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the admission process in advance, while they create an account on the university platform and eliminates the need to travel to the UAIC headquarters to submit documents. At the same time, at the start of the actual registration period for the admissions competition, pre-registered candidates have fewer steps to follow, having already uploaded most of the documents on the university's platform.

The Romanian researcher, Anca Şelariu, selected by NASA to participate in the simulation of life on Mars

NASA has selected six people to contribute to CHAPEA, the first ground mission, which will debut in June from the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The CHAPEA (Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog) mission consists of three stages, through which the crew members will simulate life on the surface of Mars for one year. Throughout the missions, members will live and work in a habitat that spans 1.700 square meters. All types of challenges of a Mars mission will be simulated, including resource limitations, equipment failures, communication delays, and other factors that can cause environmental wipeout.

"The simulation will allow us to collect cognitive and physical performance data to give us more insight into the potential impact of long-duration Mars missions on crew health and performance. Ultimately, this information will help NASA make informed decisions to design and plan a successful human mission to Mars," said Grace Douglas, CHAPEA's principal investigator, as quoted by Presshub.

NASA launched a call for applications in 2021, through which participants were selected. The crew consists of four main members and two backup members.

How does Romania stand on the world map of technology and science clusters
economica.net

In 2022, Tokyo-Yokohama is the most important science and technology center in the world, according to data from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in the Global Innovation Index (GII) report for the year 2022. The Global Innovation Index 2022 announces the largest clusters of science and technology (S&T) innovation in the world, with the highest density of inventors and scientific authors.

S&T (Science&Technology) innovation clusters are often referred to as "science and technology hubs" ie geographical areas around the world with the highest density of inventors and scientific authors. WIPO is the World Intellectual Property Organization (World Intellectual Property Organization) is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations.

A technology and science cluster is important because it allows the concentration of resources, knowledge and experience in a specific area. This can create a synergy between organizations in that field, facilitating collaboration and the exchange of ideas and information. The cluster can attract new investments and create new business opportunities and jobs in the region. Therefore, a strong cluster can have a significant positive impact on the local and national economy, as well as on research and development in that field.

In 2022, Tokyo-Yokohama is the world's leading science and technology hub, followed by Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou (China and Hong Kong, China), Beijing (China), Seoul (Republic of Korea) and San Jose-San Francisco (United States).

The top 10 clusters remain the same as last year, with one difference: Shanghai and Suzhou have meanwhile merged into one cluster.
