Meeting for the development and sustainability of the UNITA Alliance

On Friday, November 26, 2021, in Covilha (Portugal), the third meeting of the Governance Board of the UNITA European alliance took place. Together, the Rectors of the partner universities and the teams that contribute to our common activities, addressed topics that concern us all in the long term. Among them are: master's study programs with a joint degree, advanced research and doctorates in co-supervision, but also our long-term vision for UNITA, beyond the project that we implement under the umbrella of the European Universities initiative, UNITA- Montium University. We reviewed our main results for the first year of collaboration, but also the obstacles we encounter in this project. We are building together an open university, with students and for students, which will lead research towards the problems facing our border communities, with educational models and varied types of mobility for academic communities - students, administrative and support staff, teaching staff and researchers. All this will take place in a virtual interuniversity campus that combines an administrative and a social dimension. It includes, among other things, a mobile application and the use of the European Student Card for all 165000 thousand students of the alliance.

On the occasion of this meeting, the appointment of the new UNITA president took place, José Antonio Mayoral Murillo, rector of Zaragoza University in Spain. It will govern the meetings of the UNITA Council for the next year, until the appointment of the next president.

Another important meeting for the development and sustainability of the UNITA alliance is that of the Quality and Evaluation Board (QEB) which took place these days at the Universidade Beira Interior.

On November 25, the first physical meeting of student representatives of the UNITA Students' Assembly also took place. This meeting represents both an enormous step in strengthening the student community and the formalization of the structure of this autonomous organization of our alliance.

The next physical meeting is to take place in Timișoara, in May 2022.
