"Periphery. About invisible Timișoara" - event dedicated to visually impaired people, organized by the Department of Geography of UVT

The Department of Geography of the Western University of Timișoara, together with the Traian Citizens Association, announces the organization of a new event dedicated to visually impaired people: "PeriFEERIA. About the unseen Timișoara". It is the second collaboration of its kind, following the guided tour of the Fabric neighborhood in 2022, which had a real impact on the student volunteers and the community it addressed.

On June 17, 2023, from 14 p.m., we invite you to a guided tandem bicycle tour. The tour is called "Nature in the PeriFEERIC Neighborhood", it starts from the Faber Cultural Center and is designed as a pedaling with blind people on the banks of the Begă River, passing through most of Timisoara's large parks. The tour will be completed by an accessible guide, for which a tactile brochure with maps of the route and the parks traversed was created for the first time. In the continuation of the tour, participants are invited to a ride on the Bega with the Pelican boat, where the accessible guide will continue. Participation in the tour is free, subject to availability.

PeriFEERIA is our little statement, from a corner forgotten by Fabric, in which we affirm that science in the service of society is the essence of what makes us human, what binds us together and what sustains us to survive.

This event is possible thanks to the involvement of several collaborators, most of whom participate pro-bono in the entire activity:

  • The Department of Geography at Western University – designed the route and produced the tactile brochure;
  • The "Iris" Special Theoretical High School and the "Ceva de Spus" Association - helped involve visually impaired people;
  • The Timișoara Prin Alți Ochi Association, the Pedallez Association, the Tandem Arena and the Creativelo Workshop - provided the tandem bicycles, ensured the participation of trained pilots and carried out the bicycle service;
  • Locks on Bega – provided the Pelican Steamer for this special tour;
  • Kabaitan Cultural Association – provides photo and video documentation of the event.

Manufacturing is a community activation project designed and implemented by the Association Citizen Of Trajan. The project is part of the national cultural program "Timișoara - European Capital of Culture in 2023" and is financed by the Grow Timișoara program, run by Timișoara Project Center, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget Ministry of Culture.
