Prestigious international university ranking confirms the value of the West University of Timișoara

The results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the year 2021 place the Western University of Timisoara among the 13 top institutions in the country (3rd place, along with other universities in Romania, along the 1001+ range), as well as among the 1527 elite universities from 93 countries (top 1001+ worldwide).

And this year, UVT is positioned best in the performance indicator that measures the international perspective (International Outlook).

The 17th edition of THE WUR included in the evaluation almost 2000 universities in the world. Universities without a teaching component and with less than 1000 relevant publications between 2015 and 2019 (with a minimum of 150 per year) were excluded from the analysis. The analysis includes more than 24.000 Scopus indexed journals, 13.6 million articles, reviews, conference proceedings, books and book chapters (period 2015-2019) and 86 million citations (period 2015-2020) – bibliometric data extracted from Scopus and the responses of more than 22.000 representatives of the international academic community to THE's annual survey on the academic reputation of universities (contact details of survey participants were selected by Elsevier, and responses obtained in 2020 were combined with those of 2019) .

The rector of the Western University of Timișoara, prof. Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, notes the special importance of this result: "Year after year, THE WUR ranking is among the most important benchmarks of independent university evaluation, being a high-level standard in the world university hierarchy. Today, our academic community is experiencing moments of satisfaction and great joy, by ranking UVT in the top 1500 universities of the world. Through every international confirmation of this kind, through the recognition of the visible and quantifiable results of the teams made up of UVT teachers and researchers, we are one step closer to the future, we are preparing for the world of tomorrow and we are showing students the horizon of this world, with an innovative vision and comprehensive spirit".
