Timisoara. Secret Map: "Caffeine on Bega" and "Sweet Fortress"

In the festive closing weekend of the Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture program, we invite you to take part in a brand new event "Timișoara. The Secret Map: People and Places' at Cinema Victoria on Saturday afternoon from 16pm to 00pm. Together with Adriana Babeți and her guests, we will explore three episodes of the captivating series that has already won the hearts of the public.

Starting at 16:00, "Cafeină pe Bega" captures some spectacular moments from the history of coffee shops in Timișoara, marking several firsts from the current territory of Romania. Among these, the operation of the first Turkish cafe (1560), but also the invention of the espresso machine by Timișoara's Francesco Illy, who has a fascinating life story. The two episodes are 60 minutes in total and will be shown back to back.

There will be a 30-minute break during which viewers are invited to enjoy a coffee and something sweet in the cinema foyer, with the Harta Secretă and Cinema Victoria teams.

The program continues with the newest episode of the documentary series, "Sweet Citadel", which starts from the story of the sweet model of the Timişoara citadel presented in 1716 in Vienna to the liberating prince Eugen de Savoya, and then reconstructs the history of the art of Timisoara confectioners until today (from Kandia to the Italian chocolatiers of today); the story continues with the reconstruction of the first world culinary event inspired by the oldest European gastronomic treatise, Ars coquinaria de Apicius, which took place in Timisoara in 1779. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Adriana Babeți and her guests.

Access to the event is free, by reservation.
The reservation covers the entire program, tickets cannot be reserved separately for each screening.
