In the edition corresponding to the period September 2022 - September 2023 of the Nature Index, UVT ranks second among the most prestigious universities in Romania for the field of Physics (Physical Sciences).

In this edition, the field of Physics includes a total of nine university institutions in Romania. The ranking concerns the number of publications (research output) related to the field, UVT having 72 publications (second position) in the evaluated period, with a share of 2.86 (2nd position). It should be noted that of these publications, 99,19% were made with international partners (from 486 institutions), the rest being with domestic partners (from 6 institutions).

UVT rector, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "The academic community of the Western University of Timișoara includes a group of researchers in the field of physics with outstanding results, both in the education process and in research projects. The ranking of UVT in the second position at the national level in this field, according to the Nature Index ranking (2023), is a new confirmation of the performance of physics research, which I congratulate on behalf of the UVT community and my staff and encourage them to identify the ways the most practical ways to motivate young students and graduates to join the research projects they have in progress or will initiate."
