UVT inaugurates the Center for East Asian Studies, during the Japanese Culture Week in Timișoara

The Western University of Timișoara, a community open to intercultural dialogue and the promotion of international scientific and artistic values, has the special honor to announce the organization, during November 3-4, 2023, of a series of events grouped under the generic "Japanese culture week".

Thus, in the presence of HE the Ambassador of Japan in Bucharest, Mr. Hiroshi Ueda, and of Mrs. university associate. Dr. Cătălina Ancuţa, UVT vice-rector responsible for international relations and diaspora strategy, Friday, November 3, 2023, starting at 10 a.m., at the UVT headquarters located on Paris street no. 1 will be inaugurated The Center for East Asian Studies of the West University in Timișoara (https://csea.uvt.ro/), which aims to represent a platform for the promotion of research projects and initiatives, academic conferences and scientific publications, life-long learning opportunities in the area of ​​East Asian languages, literatures and cultures. The inauguration of this center takes place in the context of the start, this academic year, of the first authorized university specialization in Japanese Language and Literature in the western part of the country, at the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology of UVT.

The demonstrations will continue with a conference by Ambassador Ueda (UVT headquarters, V.Pârvan. no. 4, amphitheater A01, starting at 11.30:4 a.m.) and with the presentation of the scholarship program for international students of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology from Japan (UVT headquarters, V. Pârvan. no. 01, amphitheater A14, starting at XNUMX p.m.).

Saturday, November 4, at the UVT headquarters in bd. V. Pârvan (the main hall on the ground floor of the UVT main office, starting at 10.30), the Cultural Section of the Embassy of Japan in Romania, in partnership with the East-Asian Studies Center of the West University of Timisoara, with the collaboration of the Japanese Cultural Center of "Babeş-Bolyai" University in Cluj-Napoca will organize shodō (calligraphy) and origami (paper folding) workshops, which will be followed by a demonstration and a tōsenkyō (fan throwing) workshop.

Saturday's program will end with two traditional dances in the Nihon buyo style, performed by Mrs. Cristina Şendroiu (Aula Magna "Ioan Curea" UVT, starting at 13 p.m.), and the viewing of the Japanese film "Samā firumu ni notte" (An summer film, 2020), directed and written by Matsumoto Sōshi (Aula Magna "Ioan Curea" UVT, starting at 13.30:XNUMX p.m.). The public will be invited to get closer to the cultural context of the film by the university professor. Dr. George Şipoș, from the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology.

The week of Japanese culture in Timisoara is part of a larger, national set of events that take place annually in Romania and which aim to promote Japanese culture in our country.
