Workshop organized during the sustainability period of the RoS-NET2 project

Students from the Chemistry, Medical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology specializations of our university participated, in April 2022, in a workshop organized during the sustainability period of the RoS-Net2 project, "Romania – Serbia monitoring network for the assessment and dissemination of the impact of copper mining activities on water quality in the cross-border area".

The works presented by some students involved as volunteers in the project activities and by members of the project implementation team were included in the theme of the workshop "Environmental monitoring in areas affected by pollution produced by mining operations".

The audience was informed about interesting aspects regarding the influence of air, water and soil quality in mining areas on the health of the population, classic and modern methods of measuring the concentration of pollutants as well as combined technologies for sediment remediation. The members of the project research team presented the results of the analyzes of the physico-chemical parameters and the concentration of metals in samples taken, during the implementation of the project, from surface and underground waters in the area of ​​the former mining operation in Moldova Nouă, as well as the results obtained for determination of sample toxicity using lentil toxicity tests (Lemna minor L.).

The presentations were interactive, the students were interested in the topics covered, gave feedback and learned about the possibility of participating in other activities on similar topics or even actively participating in the sampling campaigns and experimental activities in the laboratories of research of the faculty.
