The Politehnica University of Timișoara will double the number of majors in English to attract more foreign students
economedica.net

The Politehnica University of Timișoara (UPT) has proposed to double the number of English majors at the university's faculties, from 2024 compared to the previous academic year, with the aim of attracting as many foreign students as possible, both from the EU and from outside the EU .

Furthermore, the university will open a one-year preparatory program, through which foreigners can come to learn the Romanian language.

One of the new majors taught in English at UPT will be Mechanical Engineering. Currently, UPT has majors in English such as Computer and Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Telecommunication Technologies and Systems.

The objective assumed by the UPT is that at the level of each faculty within the Politehnica University of Timișoara there should be a specialization in a foreign language.

The increase in the number of foreign students at Poliehnica Timisoara is due to the decrease in the school population in Romania and the increase in the demand for specialists on the labor market.

UPT will try to attract both students from European Union and non-EU countries.

"We are currently witnessing an infusion of unskilled labor from Asia because otherwise companies in construction, Horeca or tourism would no longer be able to operate. Given the fact that we have fewer and fewer young people, potential students, we must aim to attract foreigners to study with us, who will then cover the crisis of specialists in IT&C, engineering or automotive. Timisoara can become a university center including for young people from the European Union, if we manage to show them all the benefits we can offer. We are talking here about the high employability rate that our graduates have, the excellent connection we have with companies. Then, regarding IT, Romania does not charge income tax, which attracted many companies and led to the opening of enormous employment opportunities, right from the first year of college. Timișoara is the place where Nokia, Continental, Intel, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, Porsche and many other companies offer significant jobs and actively recruit UPT students right from college," said Florin Drăgan, the rector of the Politehnica University of Timișoara.

These days, he is visiting Timișoara, prof. univ. dr. Arlene Falcón Guerra, (photo) teaching staff at the National University of Ucayali in Peru, to set up a collaboration protocol with the "Victor Babeș" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara (UMFT).

The partnership will be for 5 years, but will be extended.

"I want to be a bridge between the medical system in Peru and the medicine in Timișoara", declared Prof. Falcon Guerra, on Tuesday May 9, who, in fact, is an old friend of Timișoara medicine, because Dr. Falcon graduated from UMFT, in 1984. Then, he also had a scholarship, in the capital of Banat, where he followed stages of training in gynecology at the Bega Clinic. Here he also worked with the late Dr. Ioan Munteanu.

Prof. Guerra stated: "The School of Medicine in Timișoara was good and is still very good. It's true that back then it didn't have the equipment it has now, but it worked very well then and it still does now. That's how I managed to become a very good surgeon. I cannot forget what I have learned here from extraordinarily well-trained teachers. Dr. Munteanu always told us that we must become very good at this profession of gynecological surgeons. One thing we must not forget: medical surgical practice has not changed, because the woman has not changed either. It has the same internal reproductive system. Everything I learned in the Medical University of Timișoara and in the gynecology clinical hospital was very useful to me and I successfully applied it in gynecological surgery in Peru. I was successful and I continue to be successful, because I followed the example of the great medical professors from Timișoara and listened to their advice and teachings".

Iulian Dumitrescu: We will have students from UMF Carol Davila in Ploiesti. The Ploiești Emergency County Hospital will transform into a University Clinical Hospital

Based on a partnership concluded between the Prahova County Council and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" from Bucharest, the prestigious higher education institution will train its students, starting from the fall of this year, in Ploiești as well. The decision was taken during today's meeting of the Senate of the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, which was also attended by the president of the Prahova County Council, Iulian Dumitrescu.

"This important collaboration has two major implications for the community of Prahova: on the one hand, the university will organize, this year, admission for 50 medical students in Ploiesti, and on the other hand, the way has been opened to transform the County Hospital of Ploiești Emergency "Dr. Constantin Andreoiu" in the University Clinical Hospital. The establishment of a section of UMF Carol Davila in Ploiești is an important step in solving the shortage of doctors in Prahova, contributing to the increase in the quality of medical services offered to the population. Courses for medical students will be held both at the University of Oil and Gas and at the Palace of Culture in Ploiești. Such an important step could not have been made without the investments of the Prahova County Council in the infrastructure of the Ploiești Dr. Constantin Andreoiu County Emergency Hospital", explained Iulian Dumitrescu.

The transformation of the Ploiești Emergency County Hospital into a University Clinical Hospital is important because it brings significant benefits both for patients and for the medical system: patients will benefit from more advanced medical services and a wider range of medical specialties; doctors and medical students will have access to more advanced resources and technologies for research and training. Last but not least, the transformation of a hospital into a University Clinical Hospital attracts to the area renowned doctors and medical specialists interested in the research and learning opportunities within the university and the hospital. These specialists bring with them expertise and experience in their fields, which leads to improved quality of medical services.
