Remus Pricopie, SNSPA: Between 2011 and 2022, the young population of Romania decreased by more than 1 million inhabitants
edupedu.ro

Between 2011 and 2022, Romania's young population decreased by over 1 million inhabitants, from 5,51 million to 4,49 million, writes the rector of the National School of Political and Administrative Studies, Remus Pricopie, in a message on National Youth Day. He also says that in the last 10 years, 100.000 young people have permanently moved to other countries and appeals to the political class to give more chances to young people, involving them in the decision-making process at the central level.

"It is easy to expect young people to follow our demands, but the truth is that we must also follow their demands and create the conditions for them to want a future in Romania", Pricopie writes.

We reproduce the message of the rector of SNSPA:

"National Youth Day is a moment of joy and celebration, but also of awareness of the fact that the future is built not only for young people, but together with young people.

The university environment is dedicated to young students, their training and development as professionals, as citizens and as people. Universities are also a good model of involving young people in building the present, their voice in their decisions being particularly important, with 25% of the members of the faculty councils and university senates, as well as through their participation in the other important commissions in the universities and at the level national. Personally, I am very attentive to the opinion of the students and do not support decisions they oppose.

"Hot Peppers" from Iași: Second prize at the biggest robotics competition in the world
rfi.ro

The First World Championship recently gathered in Houston, United States, more than 190 teams from 23 countries. Four teams from Romania faced off in Houston with the best. And the other three Romanian teams, from Pitesti, Ploiesti and Bucharest, were awarded at the First World Championship Houston.

24 students from several high schools in Iasi are part of the "Peppers" team. A first in Romania, says the students' mentor, professor Mirela Țibu, "Grigore Moisil" Theoretical High School of Informatics. The competition was tough. They played from morning to night, trained and faced challenges they didn't even think about... And teacher Mirela Țibu believes that the second place achieved is all the more precious as there are teams from other countries that benefit from generous funds. While the 'Peppers' have to cope with the competitive conditions of sponsorship money doubled by lots and lots of creativity...

"I felt very good that I was Romanian because this was our goal from the beginning. Let's go to represent the country, let's show that Romania is a country where robotics is made. Because you can't talk from statistics alone. From the statistics it can be said from the beginning that Romania is the third most competitive area in the world. After the United States and China, if I'm not mistaken. Not only us, but also the other teams in Romania are teams to be feared. We have to try to give everything we can to show the Americans that we also know how to make robots" Andrei Bălășescu, student in the XNUMXth grade from Moisil, tells with emotion. He is part of the "Peppers" robotics team, which is just one of the robotics teams at the "Grigore Moisil" Theoretical High School of Computer Science.

Only 2% of Romanian pupils and students work during school. In the Netherlands, 70%

Romania ranks last in the European Union in the employment rate of pupils and students aged between 15 and 29, according to Eurostat. At the opposite end is the Netherlands, where 70% of young people work and attend classes at the same time. Research shows that young people who work from school learn to manage their time more efficiently and become more responsible and motivated. However, more than 60% of young people will not be ready for a job in 2030. How can schools support them?

The employment average for people aged between 15 and 29 is, at the level of the European Union, 23%. The percentage refers only to those who also follow a form of education.

Romania is far below the EU average, with 2% of pupils and students employed. A similar situation exists in Slovakia (4%), Hungary and Bulgaria (5%), according to the report Eurostat on 2021. Comparatively, in the Netherlands 70% of pupils and students have a job, in Denmark, almost half of them, and in Germany, 42%.

The number of young people worldwide who are not in work, education or training is at its highest level since 2005, data shows International Labor Organization. The COVID-19 pandemic has further deepened the crisis.

Teachers and education employees receive vacation vouchers annually, until 2026, after the new granting regulation was approved by ministerial order
edupedu.ro

Teachers and education employees will receive vacation vouchers for at least the next 4 years, according to ministerial order no. 4.072/2023, signed on April 26, obtained by Edupedu.ro. Vouchers will be issued again this year only electronically, just like last year. The date of granting these benefits is not specified, but the order has not yet appeared in the Official Gazette.

The amount of 1.450 lei is taxable in the month in which the benefit is granted, and according to the Fiscal Code, the income tax is 10% in this case. Specifically, employees who receive these vouchers must pay 145 lei in tax.

The regulation for awarding these vouchers for the period 2023-2026, approved by order of the minister, states that "people who have actually carried out activity in the year for which they are granted benefit from them, and the value of the holiday vouchers is proportional to the period worked".

In past years, these benefits were granted in June, except for 2021, when they were suspended due to the pandemic. According to the consulted document, those who do not want to receive have 30 days to submit a request for it, from the publication of the minister's order in the Official Gazette. This would mean that in May these procedures will be carried out and most likely in June the cards would be fed.

The Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, declared on Tuesday that in the new higher education law substantial sanctions were introduced for people who want to buy or sell doctoral, bachelor's or master's theses
edumanager.ro

"Consistent sanctions were introduced in the committee's discussion. We want to discourage the phenomenon of both offering and buying such works. It is absolutely necessary that the integrity of all types of finalization, bachelor's, master's, doctorate works is ensured and that is why the sanctions are dissuasive for any attempts of this type. In fact, I believe that technological progress will help us to discover such attempts much more effectively", said Deca at the Parliament Palace, when asked what she thought about the sanctions introduced in the law for people interested in buying master's or doctoral theses.

Asked how these sites dealing with the sale of bachelor's, master's or doctoral theses will be discovered, Deca said: "They are known in the academic world. In many cases there are also announcements or flyers that are distributed in academic communities. It is, I think, quite easy, in a first phase, for those ethics commissions at the university level to report themselves and raise this issue. We also have provisions that clarify exactly what is the risk to which they are subject. I think it is good to publicize these things, because the Romanian higher education cannot produce performance, cannot respond to the needs of society, if it does not respect the norms of ethics and integrity".

The Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies adopted on Tuesday several amendments to the draft law on higher education, in the "legal responsibility" chapter, at the proposal of the PSD deputies.
