In 2023, at a sixth edition of UVT Liberty Marathonnew The ambassador of the annual competition is the Olympic champion Ana Maria Brânza, multiple world and European champion, declared the best swordswoman in the world three times. Based on the collaboration agreement between COSR and UVT, in which the role of COSR is provided to annually recommend the personalities of the sports life who will participate in the UVT Liberty Marathon, as symbolic figures of the sports movement in Romania, the Olympic champion Ana Maria Brânza will sign the UVT medal Liberty Marathon 2023, offered to over 2500 participants in this year's edition of the event.
The announcement of the new UVT Liberty Marathon Ambassador for the 2023 competition was occasioned by the press conference organized today at the COSR headquarters, which was attended by Mihai Claudiu Covaliu, COSR president, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, UVT rector, together with the Olympic champion Ana Maria Brânza and Simona Amânar Tabără, director of the Romanian Olympic Academy.
The rector of UVT, prof. univ. dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, appreciates the value brought by the Olympic champion Ana Maria Brânza for the reputation of the UVT Liberty marathon, a support offered publicly, at the international level, by the well-known champion: "The official role of UVT Liberty Marathon 2023 Ambassador, which Ana Maria Brânza will fulfill in this year's edition, is particularly important for all generations of participants in the competition and for the general public, supporting the message of sportsmanship that UVT proposes to the community: UVT Liberty Marathon is a living demonstration of the choices that make us different, that make us unique and free, developed through sports and health, through a complex sports education and awareness of the universal value of the culture of harmonious life and sportsmanship."
Olympic champion Ana Maria Brânza stated: "I thank the Western University of Timișoara for this special and honorable opportunity, to play the role of UVT Liberty Marathon 2023 Ambassador. I am happy to be able to publicly convey to those who despise sports and are followers of sports culture that, on October 1, Timișoara will be and the European Capital of Sports Culture, at UVT. We are waiting for you!".
The president of COSR, Mihai Claudiu Covaliu, stated: "Romanian sports champions are real models for society. They cultivate values that are not only theoretically desired and are an active part of rebuilding contemporary society through what they impress upon people: honor, team spirit, fair play and excellence. Olympic champions have sports education in their DNA and pass it on to new generations through the power of example, with the help of Olympic principles and values. Ana Maria Brânza is on a mission in Timișoara and taking into account everything she represents for Romanian sport, I am convinced that she will complete this duty, a legacy that we pass on from generation to generation. The Academic Environment and the Olympic Movement share common values and together prove that sport unites and educates people in the purest spirit of fair play!".
The 2023 edition of the UVT Liberty Marathon will take place on October 1, being, as already established, a competition addressed to experienced runners, but also to young people or children who are new to running. Registration for one of the race categories allows each runner to choose the right challenge, the competition that suits them: marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), marathon relay (42km), half marathon relay (21km), cross country (10.5km) and cross country (2km).
In the previous editions we accumulated really valuable experiences, which help us aim for new competitive levels. For 2023, we aim to reach a level of over 2500 participants, over 25.000 km of running in total, so we are convinced that the event will become a landmark for lovers of this sport, positioning Timișoara on the international map of road marathons.
On the occasion of today's conference, the president of COSR also announced the organization of the National Olympic Cross in Timișoara, on May 10, an annual event dedicated to the health of the body and mind, now organized in the European Capital of Culture TM2023.
