"Beehive Panels" - foray into the fascinating world of Miša Keskenović

Between January 25 and February 20, a photography exhibition developed progressively in several stages took place at the UVT Art Center Gallery (near the Platani Park). On January 25, we invited you to discover the fascinating world of Miša Keskenović (Slovenia) through his photographic project "Beehive Panels".

The artist loves to use old photographic techniques such as the camera obscura and the wet collodion process. The "Beehive Panels" project explores the ethnological heritage of Slovenia, where hives were artistically marked by beekeepers to identify the different families of bees. Spontaneously and inspired by nature, Keskenović captured unique images using a camera obscura, and the results are stunning. By applying complex techniques, such as the choice of maple as raw material, a special preparation of the panel specific to iconographers, he created remarkable photographic objects.

Beehive Panels, started in 2013 is an ongoing project and as the author mentions: "I have finished a series but am working on new ones exploring the meaning of the Beehive Panels today, contemporary society's relationship with the environment and the meaning of art in general."

The exhibition "Beehive Hues: An exploration of Cyanotype, Wet collodion and Van Dyke Processes", is the exciting result of the courses and workshop held for the students of the Faculty of Arts and Design/UVT in the laboratories of the Graphics and Photo-Video section, under the guidance of the talented artist visual and teacher, Miša Keskenović.

The title of the exhibition, "Beehive Hues", suggests not only the richness and versatility of art, but also the interconnection and effervescent collaboration between students and artist. Through the traditional photographic processes of Cyanotype, Wet collodion and Van Dyke, this exhibition offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of alternative photography, stimulating the imagination and encouraging unconventional approaches. The exhibition begins with the curator's works, offering a journey into his artistic universe, illustrating his distinctive technique and from here, the gallery opens to the students' creations, reflecting not only the influence of the workshop, but also the diversity of their artistic thought and expression.

The Cyanotype process, known for its deep blue notes, and the Van Dyke, characterized by sepia tones, were approached in an innovative way by the students. Through experimentation and collaboration, they have succeeded in blending tradition with contemporaneity, resulting in images that find their roots in the past but look to the future.

The exhibition "Beehive Hues: An exploration of Cyanotype, Wet collodion and Van Dyke Processes" is not only a collection of images, but also a story of artistic discovery and exploration. Each work represents a step forward in the search for each student's artistic identity under the careful guidance of Miša Keskenović. Thus, this exhibition is a celebration of creativity, experimentation and collaboration, illustrating that the world of photography is always evolving and that our students are prepared to be the artists of tomorrow.

The students exhibited: Lunceanu Alexandru (Graphics), Costea Alexandra (Graphics/Photo-Video), Daria Popa (Photo-Video), Ana Popa (Photo-Video), Oscar Iustin Mărgărintoni (Photo-Video), Cristina Apostol (Photo- Video), Gabriel Matlak (Photo-Video), Dămian Cosmin (Photo-Video), Baderca Amanda (Photo-Video), Tamas Borza (Photo-Video), Toma Rossetti (Photo-Video), Achirei Adrian (Photo-Video) , Adrian Murgulescu (Graphics), David Lukacs (Photo-Video), Cosmin Neață (Photo-Video).

Miša Keskenović was born in 1967 in Bosanska Dubica, SFRJ, and currently lives and works in Slovenia. Miša's artistic journey began at the Academy of Theatre, Film and Television in Zagreb, Croatia, where he studied and briefly worked as a camera operator. In the midst of the Yugoslav Wars, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. With a formal title of cinematographer, Miša's diverse career includes roles in the Sombor National Theater and various theaters in Serbia. His photography, rooted in analogue processes, demonstrates a very good mastery of historical techniques such as wet collodion or copy-contact processes.

Miša Keskenović was the guest of the Faculty of Arts and Design Timișoara/UVT, through the Visiting @WUT program.
