Between April 5-13, under the title INTERCONNECTORS, a representative exhibition of the teaching staff of the Design and Applied Arts Department of the Faculty of Arts and Design, UVT, was opened to the Bucharest public. Hosted by Senate Gallery, a modern unconventional exhibition space dedicated to art and technology, the exhibition was able to highlight the creations of the collective of teachers and researchers in the field of applied arts and design.
This exhibition takes shape as an expression of the comprehensive character of the Department of Design and Applied Arts, by highlighting the individual research issues of the teaching staff working here. Naturally, these areas of interest shown individually are close, but in some cases they are shown to be as different as possible, from one specialization to another. Although from one point on the exhibition may seem to have a somewhat heterogeneous character - through the diversity of the issues, through the approaches, techniques or specific means of realization - the multitude of individual research areas that our department integrates and undertakes is transparent. In this way, the Department of Design and Applied Arts defines itself as a powerful creation, research and education entity, among the most complex and performing at the national level.
Our mission and objectives are oriented in a direction that favors authentic and innovative professional research and creation, combined with the aspects of the educational sphere - more precisely, the way everything is transferred to the activity of the department. Whether we are talking about clothing, interior, industrial or graphic design, - whether we are considering ceramic or textile creations - the propensity for applied artistic creation is evident, a defining fact in shaping an authentic professional and didactic path. All this constitutes the starting point for what our department undertakes as an international relevance. The multitude of recurring, biennial or annual events in the field of design, photography or miniature arts constitute a consistent part of the image of the Faculty of Arts and Design at the international level. The performances of students in important international and national competitions also contribute to this consolidated image of our institution. However, at the end of the day, what defines us as an institution is, somehow, the sum of individual reputations, certified by the appreciations that each one has in their field of activity. Naturally, FAD does not mean only the pure sum of them, but this is where it starts, and collective reputations are naturally built around individual benchmarks. It was in this sense that the intention of this exhibition, of the Department of Design and Applied Arts, was formulated, namely, to reveal the personalities of the teachers here - each of them being at the forefront of their field -, all together, constituting a competitive structure didactic at national level and with a good image among collaborators from abroad.
At the opening of the exhibition, the speech was given by Conf. univ. Dr. Mădălin Bunoiu, UVT Vice-Chancellor and Univ. Prof. Dr. Camil Mihăescu, FAD Dean. The curator of the exhibition is Univ. Conf. Dr. Iosif Mihailo, department director.
